Still Life

These paintings depict an aspect of human experience that I hesitate to put into words. Through these small floral paintings, the theme of sorrow (love in the context of mortality) is explored.  Expressing the experience of a pain which is deeper than the flesh, I strive to depict this reality while maintaining an awareness of the objective beauty of life. By rendering these aspects of human experience in such terms, one is allowed to acknowledge and endure through the quality of pain that only exists in the presence of love. In expressing the times when we find ourselves traveling through “this valley of tears,” these paintings offer to share in the burden of sorrow by providing a voice when words are not adequate.
